Roseate Spoonbill, Platalea ajaja:
Black Swamp Wildlife Drive; Merritt Island NWR near Titusville, Florida
While driving along the Black Swamp Wildlife Drive at
Merritt Island NWR, I found this pair of Roseate Spoonbills in perfect early
morning light. The birds were quite
pensive when they suddenly launched into courting display. With bill held high the male began strutting
around the female who responded with raising its bill. I photographed the birds for at least twenty
minutes. In this case, pink is certainly
a manly color.
