Pic of the Day
Common Nighthawk - Wichita Falls, Texas: Nighthawks are commonly seen flying around lighted parking lots and street lights feeding on the wing in early spring through late summer across North America. Seeing nighthawks perched is an uncommon sight, but while photographing birds near Wichita Falls, I found this nighthawk resting on a fence adjacent to open pasturelands. Using my van as a blind, I was able to approach the nighthawk without disturbing the bird. The setting sun bathed the bird with golden light as the sun touched the horizon. I used a Nikon D300 camera and a Nikkor 500 f/4 lens to shoot the image.
