Roseate Spoonbill, Ajaia ajaja; Saint Augustine Alligator Farm, FloridaJust another pretty face? Well, that's debatable, but this is one of the most sought after birds for those visiting Florida. I shot this spoonbill at the natural rookery at the Saint Augustine Alligator Farm in Saint Augustine, Florida last March. This bird is an adult in breeding plumage with roseate (rose-colored) wing coverts. I did not make it to the rookery this past spring, but after coming across this image while looking for shots to post, I am eager to hit the rookery next spring. If you have never been to the Saint Augustine Alligator Farm, you should plan a trip. It is a spectacle worth your time and effort. March through May in my opinion is the best time to visit. Maybe I'll see you there next spring.
