Pic of the Day

 Downy Woodpecker, Picoides pubescens: Horse Cove; Gurley, Alabama 

     Migrants are still moving through.  I shot the Summer Tanager, pictured above, as the tanager perched in a tree above my birdbath this afternoon.  The Downy is one of the resident birds who was making one of her many forays to the Bark Butter feeder.  Hummingbirds are still here, but fewer in number today.  I have never had a hummer after October 5th.  It will be interesting to see if any hummers stay longer than the 5th this year.
